Jessie Marie Weaver (Sullivan), daughter of Tom and Gladys Sullivan, was born March 14, 1938, in Gunnison Colorado at the Adams Ranch, which is now the John Wilson Ranch. As of 1991, the old white Ranch house, in which Jessie was born, still stood on the ranch, at the end of Main street. One of nine children, seven brothers and one sister, Jessie went to school at Blackstock School for three years. When she was seven years old, her family moved to Nu Mine #1, located in the Carbon Creek drainage. Jessie attended Castleton School and graduated from the eighth grade.
At age 15, her family moved to the Kubler Mine, which is now past history. It was at Nu Mine #1 where she met Jack Weaver, whom she married March 30th, 1954 at the age of 16. A quiet wedding, Jessie’s brother Richard and her best friend Janice Formaze attended.
Jack and Jessie lived at the Kubler Mine for 12 years, where they became the proud parents of Ernst, Dwight, Dale and Joyce. In 1966 they moved to Doyleville Colorado. One year later they purchased Jessie’s mothers’ home at 114 N 8th St, Gunnison, where she resided in death.
Jessie once worked with the Gymkanas and the Ladies Horse Back Drill and was a member of the Ohio Creek Home Demonstration Club. For three years, she served as the treasurer of the V.F.W Ladies Auxiliary, which she was still a member of. A grandmother of ten wonderful grandchildren, and a great grandmother to 15 great grandkids. Jessie enjoyed cooking, sewing and piddling with interior decorating. She also had a hobby and small business working with fish worms.
She worked for eight years as a custodian for Gunnison National Forest Service and then at Western State College, also as a custodian, where she retired in 1994. Back in 1968, Jack and Jessie purchased 50 High Trailer Park, which they ran for about 40 years before selling it. In 2012, Jessie decided she didn’t have enough to keep her busy, so she purchased the Opportunity Shop, catering to the bargain re-sale of second hand items donated from the public.
Jessie is survived in death by three brothers and one sister, her four children, nine grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
No service or memorial will be held at this time. In remembrance of Jessie and her long years of commitment to the Community, her family is asking for donations be sent to the local food bank in her memory.
